Coaching

I loved to coach HKU/University of the Arts Utrecht students during the conceptualisation and realisation of their (graduation) films, when I was a lecturer there for almost 20 years. Though not a main goal, these graduation films regularly got broadcasted, selected by (international) film festivals or sometimes even won prizes.

"Maartje was a fantastic mentor during my final year at the HKU. At one point I was lost and didn’t really find ideas for a graduation project that was close to my heart. Instead of pushing me, Maartje understood and discussed with me the possibilities of extending my year.

Little did we both know a couple of weeks later I would find an idea that I wanted execute and make. Maartje thought together with me on how we could approach this, she wasted no time in helping me get back on track. Maartje made sure to ask the right questions and challenged my ideas so that they not only made sense but that they were also sticking to the main theme I was trying to tell.

My graduation film “Patroon” has made headlines in various major news outlets in Amsterdam and has screened at various events throughout the Netherlands, including on VICE NIGHT during NFF for 500 attendees.

Maartje is a strict teacher, but once you click with her you also see her soft and caring side which is really nice. I love a challenge and Maartje is the right person for that.
